Mauritius Weather – a Tropical Paradise

Mauritius is a tropical island and the countryside reflects this, it is very colourful and has wonderful lush green vegetation.  The island enjoys incredible weather most of the year as there is no defined weather patterns such as wet/rainy season or particularly dry seasons. This is an ideal holiday destination as there is much to see and wonderful beaches to enjoy, the island enjoys many visitors during the summer months, and it’s definitely a wonderful place to spend a honeymoon or an anniversary holiday, the island caters for young and old.

Whether you are just newlywed or wish to celebrate a special birthday, wedding anniversary or any other celebration you would enjoy the ambiance, excellent Mauritius weather, marvellous accommodation and so much more.

Daytime temperatures during the summer months which is August through to February are very temperate, during August one can expect around 22°c and April the average about 28°c in the Central plateau,  around the coastal areas its much warmer one can expect between 3 to 5 degrees higher   the Western and Northern regions are normally warmer and dryer.   Nighttimes it cools about on average 5 to 7 degrees.  The temperatures of seas average 22/24°c in winter and during summer 28/30°c. Which means swimming even in winter is still comfortable.  If you plan to work on your tan you can be assured that even during winter months you can still obtain a reasonable tan.

Sunrise in summer is about 5h30 and sunset around 19h00, winter months about 6h30 and sets about 17h30. Mauritius gets summer rains usually January to March.  During the months of November to March one can expect cyclones.

As a word of caution if you intend spending a lot of time in the sun, it’s always advisable to a sun screen on your skin the sun rays can do a lot of damage to the skin if it is unprotected. The island does not want you to hurt yourself, it wants you to have a happy and healthy holiday and return time after time.

Winter is an ideal time to visit Mauritius, the temperature is cooler and most days you won’t need to use the air-conditioner in your hotel room.  Since is not the rainy season there is less likelihood of rain, you may experience the odd shower in the evenings or occasional shower daytimes.  Excellent benefits of visiting during the winter months the hotel tariffs are definitely cheaper at this time of the year, and visiting the market place and other places of interests, plus the taxies, you will be in a position to negotiate better prices and taxi fares, the islanders are more amenable to haggling during the winter months as there are not as many tourists as there are in summer.  You will enjoy the sights more in winter as the tourist areas are less crowded so you will be able to move about more easily and see more and an added bonus you won’t have to worry about cyclones in the winter months.  Whatever time you go you will enjoy excellent Mauritius weather.
